| Here are two of my drying racks full of ware. Drying is an extremely important step. It must be slow to avoid warping and cracking. You can see my lamp bases covered with paper bags and weighted down with tiles. This slows the drying process. The pieces must be completely dry before bisque firing. Any water trapped inside will turn the object into a bomb when the temperature reaches the boiling point. The steam must escape and it does it in dramatic ways. One damp piece can break everything on the kiln shelf and create a real mess. | |||||
